In 2014 KTM stocked the freeride 250 with a lead acid battery. In 2015, KTM got the message and started installing lithium batteries as stock.
So for those of you with a 2014 and want a lithium battery here are a few options.

For 2016:
It has been reported that the 2016 FR 250 arrives with a battery charger harness pre-installed (on left hand side, below tank and above starter motor). Image forthcoming.
Also noted that riders can carry a small battery tender-to-USB converter to enable an emergency-charge to a cell phone from the bike while out on the trail. Also good for running an app such as GAIA GPS with forest service maps while you ride.
