Clutch

The clutch on the Freeride 250 has a heavy pull. There are a few options:

  • One light clutch – spring assisted clutch lever
  • Softer clutch springs
  • 9mm master cylinder
  • Midwest Mountain Engineering clutch lever
  • Remove 2 of the stock clutch springs
  • Rekluse Exp 3.0 Autoclutch

One Light Clutch

Clake One Light Clutch Web Site

One light clutch replaces the clutch master cylinder. It uses springs and cams to assist in the pull of the clutch. I have had one on my bikes for years and love it. Very light clutch movement.  Not quite like a trials bike, but pretty close. Costs about 400AUD including international shipping.

NOTES about One Light Clutch:

  • Make sure to order it specifically for the Freeride 250R
  • KTM Freeride uses DOT 4 brake fluid

Lighter Clutch Springs

Softer clutch spring are available from Honda or KTM:

  • CRF125 clutch springs 22401KSRA00
  • KTM125 springs 50332005000

I put the KTM clutch springs in mine, and they do help the pull, but is not quite as good as the Clake OLC.

9mm Master Cylinder

The Freeride (Formula) clutch bore is 10mm.  You can get a Brembo 9mm Master cylinder.  You will also need to have an adapter for the clutch hose or have a new hose made up (I hear its hard to find the fitting on the slave cylinder end).

Master Cylinder Assembly 79202030044. Fits 2016-2019 KTM 125 150 SX XC Models.

With the clutch spring above and the 9mm Master cylinder the clutch pull it quite a bit lighter – almost as light as the Clake OLC.

Midwest Mountain Engineering Clutch Lever

The MME clutch lever uses a different lever ratio to give a wider range clutch action, as well as an easier pull.  This in combination with the lighter clutch springs and 9mm Clucth MC and it is getting very light – comparable to the Clake OLC.

My only beef with the MME lever is that it is squarish and gets a bit tough on the one finger after hours of technical riding.  The Clake is very smooth on the finger. YMMV.

Remove 2 of the stock clutch springs

Removing two of the six stock clutch springs has been reported to soften the clutch pull without allowing the clutch to slip prematurely. Please test this on your own.
